Customer Review: Does not hold up.
When I got my Fagor pressure cooker I was very pleased with how it worked and assumed my pressure cooking days were just beginning. I used it daily for about six months with no trouble other than cleaning. Then, without overheating or other accident, it developed a crack in the safety valve under the lid. It is made of some sort of weak pot metal. This is the valve which seals in the steam and raises the safety button. Unfortunately it cannot be purchased alone. You must buy the handle and other parts as a kit--all of which costs nearly as much as a new pressure cooker. I had expected nothing would need replacement but the gasket. Between the weakness of the part and the lack of economical access to a replacement, I would say Fagor is selling a throw-away product, unfortunately, because it really does work well--at first.
Customer Review: Faulty design - consider another brand
I've owned this pressure cooker for 6 months and I've already changed the gasket twice. Even with that, it doesn't hold pressure and often just lets out a burst of hot pressurized steam halfway through cooking. I wouldn't recommend this item to my worst enemy.

Fagor Splendid 4-Quart Pressure Cooker Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Pressure cooking uses pressurized steam to cook healthy meals with beans, grains, meat, poultry, and seafood in much less time than many other cooking methods require. Made in Spain, this Splendid pressure cooker holds a maximum capacity of 4 quarts of Italian chicken soup or beans with sausage and works on all heat sources. The cooker is constructed of high-quality 18/10 stainless steel with an encapsulated aluminum base for even and efficient heat distribution. For safety, the pressure cooker has dual pressure settings on its handle--one in a dial control and another on a valve. Other safety measures include two pressure release valves and a locking handle to prevent the unit from opening while under pressure. A visual indicator lets you know when all the pressure has been released and the cooker is ready to open. This pressure cooker is dishwasher-safe. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Review: Just What I Wanted
I purchased this item for 47 dollars now that our economy is collapsing. I've always wanted a stainless steel pressure cooker, and this one performs admirably. It does not have a lot of complicated features or mechanisms to get in the way of it's intended purpose. It's just complicated enough to get the job done, and get it done safely. It does require you to read the manual. I see some reviews on here that say pieces of the mechanism melted over time, or that steam constantly escapes. The manual clearly states to move it onto low heat after the pressure indicator pops up. I have to wonder if people just aren't following the directions. This same problem could happen if you do not replace the gasket every 10 to 12 months, again, this is stated in the manual. Ok, now that I toss that out there. I just got done making homemade chili using a recipe that comes with the pressure cooker. In 15 minutes time on the stove I had a chili that tasted like it cooked for over an hour. The onions were so soft they melted in my mouth. I had a small amount of staining in the bottom of the cooker, which I think is normal. I get the same thing in my $80 stainless steel pans. I just washed it with soap and water and a little bar keepers friend. Clean as a whistle in 30 seconds. I prefer this honestly. My mother had a really expensive fully automated pressure cooker that was lined with something like teflon, and after a while it flakes off and makes a terrible mess. With the stainless steel you know you have a REAL quality pan that is going to last a very long time. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Customer Review: Bad purchase
Fagor quality has really deteriorated in the past few years. I had originally bought this same cooker a few years back and it worked great but just bought a new one and the workmanship is terrible The lid dosent close properly, it grinds as you try to cloes it, you can see that the pieces (top and the base) dont align well, the handle is a mess. I would not buy this company product again

Fagor "Elite" Pressure Cooker, 10 Qt. Tuesday, December 2, 2008
A contemporary 10-qt. pressure cooker with European design and easy one-touch cooking. Made of 18/10 stainless steel with aluminum-clad base sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel for even heat distribution. 10-year consumer warranty. Model # 918012535
Customer Review: Great Pressure cooker: 4 stars because....
Most everything about this pressure cooker is excellent and I think anyone who hasn't tried pressure cooking using Lorna Sass's great cookbooks or the recipes and techniques With pressure cookers I have found that I can meet or beat the cooking times with my microwave which came as a surprise. The only quibble I have with it is the fact that parts and accessories are not readily available (as with all other competing brands of pressure cookers.) If you do want parts you must look for them online if they are not stocked in your local store such as Macy's otherwise I would have rated this 5 stars! I am in the Concord, CA area where the product was available but not the gaskets so I had to look online for them. I found out quickly that all parts including extra after cooking lids, the pressure release valve, pressure regulators, safety and handle parts can be purchased along with the backup gaskets from Fagor directly by mail with the insert that comes with the pressure cooker by looking up your model number. If any retailers are reading this, listen up! Your customers want to be able to buy after-market parts, is a gasket and pressure regulator basic enough?

Fagor Duo Stainless-Steel 6-Quart Pressure Cooker
Imagine turning dried beans into soup in just 20 minutes, cooking risotto in 7 minutes, or sitting down to fresh cioppino in 3 minutes. This 6-quart cooker helps you fix these and other delicious meals in about 70-percent less time than with other cooking methods while also using one of the healthiest cooking procedures, pressurized steam, to retain more of foods vital nutrients, delicious taste, and natural color. Made in Spain, the Duo pressure cooker is constructed of high-quality 18/10 stainless steel with an encapsulated aluminum base for even and efficient heat distribution. All ingredients go inside the cooker at once and the lid twists and locks into place. Once you set the cooker to one of two pressure settings, it is ready to go. A sliding pressure lock on the handle ensures that the lid will not open until all the pressure is released, and, for additional safety, the Duo has two pressure release valves to prevent excessive steam build-up. The cooker has a black ergonomically designed handle, along with a helper handle, that makes it easier to lift it off the stove. The Duo comes with a stainless-steel steamer basket and trivet plus a full-color cookbook with over 50 recipes and a detailed instruction manual. It is safe to use on gas, electric, ceramic, or induction stovetops and should be hand washed with mild soap to preserve the mirror finish and the gasket. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Review: not big enough for corn on the cob
The pressure works great in getting up to pressure quickly and love the safety features built in, but the overall diameter is not big enough for cooking corn on the cob.
Customer Review: Nice Design
I had a Kuhn Rikon and still have a Presto pressure cooker. I got rid of the Kuhn Rikon. I love the Fagor Duo. The Kuhn Rikon design is a real pain if you have an electric stove. It is probably almost acceptable if you have a gas stove. The Fagor models work equally well on either type stove. Also, along the same lines, the Fagor and the Presto designs are much more forgiving. You better plan on watching a Kuhn Rikon very closely -- especially on an electric stove -- but also on a gas range. It can get to an over pressure situation easily. Granted you will likely just blow out part of your gasket (the safety measure) if you get distracted. Who needs that? You better have an eagle eye and fast reactions to maintain a reasonably constant pressure inside your cooker with an electric stove. You do lose some steam with a Fagor though typically much less than with a Presto model. (You lose nearly no vapor with a Kuhn Rikon -- that is about their only big selling point in my book.) The Fagor model uses a compressed spring to regulate pressure. The Presto uses a weight on top of a vent pipe -- this combination is called a jiggler valve -- to regulate pressure. To regulate pressure with a Kuhn Rikon you basically watch a rising spring loaded pressure indicator and adjust the heat as needed. Gas heat is more quickly adjustable than electric. You have to either hope for the best as you crank the heat up and down with an electric stove or play hop scotch between a too hot and a too cold burner. On the Fagor Duo there are two spring compression settings. You can cook at 8 psig or 15 psig. 15 psig is the normal setting used for most pressure cooking. For delicate foods, like fish, or if you are in no particular rush the 8 psig setting will come in handy. Bottom line is I like the Fagor the best of the three pressure cookers I discussed, next I like the Presto. The Kuhn Rikon is built like a tank and it is an interesting design. I just don't like it as well as the Fagor's and I am a both a mechanical engineer and I cook for a hobby. I'd like to think my opinion is an informed one.

Fagor U Cook 7-Piece Deluxe Pressure Cooker Set Monday, December 1, 2008
Adopting the "quick and healthy" motto in terms of daily meal preparation? This pressure cooker set prepares food up to 70 percent faster than conventional methods while retaining up to 50 percent more of food's vitamins and minerals. The set includes two 18/10 stainless-steel pots in 4- and 6-quart sizes along with a universal lid that covers both. An encapsulated aluminum base in the bottom of the pots spreads heat throughout to cook dishes, such as Mediterranean risotto, a whole citrus-glazed chicken, or a warm flan, evenly while using less fuel. Steam breaks down food's fibers quickly, leaving a delectable tender consistency and boosting flavors. And, because these pots don't have any magnetic elements, they can be used on any type of stovetop, including induction ranges.
After ingredients are loaded into either pot, the lid rotates and locks tightly as its handle meets the pot's handle. A knob on top of the handle sets the cooker at either low or high heat and also sets the pressure release valve, which may be used in lieu of natural release methods (letting pressure drop at room temperature or under cold running water). When the valve is no longer emitting steam, the yellow thumb lever becomes operable and unlocks the lid from its base. The U Cook has two safety mechanisms in place to ensure that the explosions of pressure cooking lore can never happen. A cutout in the lid's rim vents steam in the event of high-pressure build-up and a back-up valve under the lid handle kicks in if the pressure is excessive.
This pressure cooker kit also includes a tempered glass lid that fits both pots and turns them into conventional stockpots. A stainless-steel pasta basket fits within the 6-quart pot and is ideal for boiling pasta or steaming asparagus. The set also includes a smaller stainless-steel basket that steams more compact veggies, such as carrots or broccoli, in the 4-quart pot or hangs along the top of the 6-quart pot for steaming vegetables while pasta boils below. As an added bonus, the bottom of the steamer basket is also a food grater containing large holes for coarse grating, smaller holes for finer shaving, and slotted holes for slicing. This comprehensive 7-piece pressure cooking set comes with a detailed instruction manual and the full-color cookbook,Tastefully Under Pressure, which contains over 90 pressure cooker recipes tested in the Fagor kitchens. Fagor offers a 10-year warranty on this set. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Review: Fagor U Cook
This set is really easy to use and is worth the price, and I highly recommend it. The 18/10 stainless steel pots are heavy, durable, they perform well when searing, and cleaning them is a breeze (see manual for cleaning instructions). In addition to the pressure lid, the set includes a glass lid that fits both pots, a steamer basket with trivet, and a pasta basket. So the pots can be used for purposes other than pressure cooking. The set also includes a really nice recipe book and detailed instructions on use and care. The pressure cooker lid is easy to lock, just line up the marks on the lid and handle, rotate the lid and lock it in place. I wasn't really clear on how to determine when the cooker is under pressure. The directions say when you see a steady stream of steam for the first time, reduce the heat to maintain it. However, when doing a trial run with just water in the pot, the cooker clearly wasn't under pressure when the first steady steam appeared, however, I followed the directions and lowered the heat but could still remove the lid after a few minutes. I checked to make sure the gasket was seated properly and that the lid was on correctly and tried it again with the same result. I let the water boil for a few minutes and removed it from the heat and turned the dial for quick release of pressure. No steam was released, and I could remove the lid so no pressure. For the next trial run, I waited until the indicator popped up over high heat, then lowered the heat. This time after removing the pot from the heat, steam was released when I set the dial to quick release. I have used the pressure cooker a few times now and wait until the indicator pops up before lowering the heat. The first thing I actually cooked was converted rice. I started timing when the indicator popped up and 10 minutes later (7 with pressure, 3 without) perfect fluffy rice! My next venture was chicken wings (10). I deep fried them in the 6 quart pot (no lid) until brown, poured off the oil, added 1/2 cup of water, placed the wings in the steamer basket, put the pressure lid on, and cooked them 5 minutes under pressure. I let the pressure release naturally before removing the wings from the pot which was about another 2-3 minutes. Seems like a lot for chicken wings but they were delicious! Let me add, DO NOT attempt to pressure fry chicken in hot oil in the pressure cooker! There are a lot of recipes on the internet that try to mimic the Kernel's fried chicken which is cooked under pressure but that's done using a commerical grade pressure FRYER. Pressure cookers like this one are not designed for pressure frying, and the results of boiling hot oil under pressure can be disastrous. If you decide to purchase this set or another, make sure you read all of the instructions and tips before using it. If you are new to pressure cooking and are a little apprehensive about the process like I was, you may want to either buy a book on the topic or check one out from the library. I started with the book by Lorna Sass, Pressure Perfect. The Jiffy Meatballs with Tomato Sauce is delicious!
